The Kalk Bay and St James Residents and Ratepayers Association (RRA) has adopted a Mission Statement which aims to set out the agenda of the RRA, namely to:
- Represent the interests of all residents and property owners;
- Engage with local authorities to promote effective service delivery;
- Support community welfare and local development initiatives;
- Help preserve the unique character, heritage, and environment of the area.
This agenda is underpinned by the following principles:
- Representation: Serve as a unified voice in discussions with municipal and public authorities;
- Service Delivery Advocacy: Promote consistent, fair and quality public services, including waste management, road upkeep and infrastructure and maintenance;
- Community Development: Encourage projects that enhance local living standards, public safety and inclusivity – supporting initiatives by locals such as community clean-ups, park improvements and social support efforts;
- Environmental Stewardship: Encourage the safeguarding of coastal areas, parks, and green spaces with a focus on sustainability and the preservation of, and preference for, indigenous flora;
- Heritage Protection: Contribute to planning processes to maintain the architectural and cultural character and integrity of the area;
- Safety Commitment: Promote safety from crime, fire risks, and environmental hazards through practical community programmes and communication with appropriate authorities ;
- Transparent Communication: Facilitate open communication with residents and maintain constructive relationships with the City of Cape Town (CoCT), PRASA, the harbour authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
